Poughkeepsie Quakers Gather for Thanksgiving at Oakwood Friends School 2024 (2)

Poughkeepsie Friends gather after Meeting for Worship at Oakwood Friends School

All are welcome here.

Poughkeepsie Quaker Meetings for Worship are open to everyone. Bring an open heart and a desire to worship with Quaker Friends who wait quietly to experience the Light within or “that of God in everyone.”

First Day (Sunday) school and pre-school childcare available.

In silent worship, may we embrace and be embraced by the living eternal Spirit as we listen in stillness for messages for ourselves, and for others.

Come one, come all, welcome home!

Did you know that Quaker congregations, the Religious Society of Friends, have gathered throughout the Hudson Valley of New York for over 300 years? We worship in silent, expectant waiting as we come together in stillness to make room for the voice of Spirit.

We sit in silence, and wait expectantly, with an open heart, for a spoken message or prayer or ministry that may arise. From time to time someone may speak briefly, but sometimes the entire hour may pass without a word being spoken.

There is no clergy, hierarchy, set ritualized speech and behavior, written creed or prepared messages so as not to crowd out what is usually such a still and small voice within — the inward grace that connects us to the Spirit and Creator of all around us.

Are YOU a Quaker?

Listen to testimonies from Friends on how THEY know they are Quaker and what it means to be in the modern Religious Society of Friends.

What do Quakers believe?

Hear 26 Quakers as they share the beliefs they have found in Quakerism, an experiential religion with no creed and no dogma.

My first Quaker Meeting

“Joining Quakers, almost felt as if this community of faith, this faith that I was discovering, fell cleanly through my head and into my heart.”
