Join Friends for a screening of Brother Outsider: The Life of Bayard Rustin, hosted by the Poughkeepsie Public Library District. Brother Outsider is a powerful documentary about the tireless crusader for justice, Bayard Rustin. Known as a disciple of Gandhi, a mentor to Martin Luther King Jr., and the architect of the 1963 March on Washington, Rustin was also an openly gay man during a time of extreme homophobia in the 1940s-1960s. This film showcases the triumphs and challenges of his 60-year career, shedding light on his remarkable legacy and lasting influence on the Civil Rights Movement.
After the screening, stay for an engaging Q&A with Walter Naegle, Rustin’s life partner, moderated by Kenya Gadsden, to discuss Rustin’s extraordinary life and ongoing relevance.
